Voss is a Norwegian-based bottled water from the village of Vatnestrøm in Iveland municipality, Agder county. Contrary to popular belief, the water is not bottled in the municipality of Voss, which is more than 400 kilometres (250 mi) from the bottling site. It is available in both still and sparkling forms.
Voss was founded in 1998 by two Norwegian entrepreneurs, Ole Christian Sandberg and Christopher Harlem. While many bottled water brands focus on mountain springs or glaciers, Voss was built on a foundation of Scandinavian design and purity.
The water is sourced from an artesian well in Vatnestrøm, a sparsely populated area in Southern Norway. Deep underground, the water is protected from pollutants by layers of rock and sand, resulting in a naturally low mineral count.

Voss Logo

Despite its name, the water is not sourced from the municipality of Voss in Western Norway. It is instead drawn from an artesian well in Vatnestrøm, more than 400 kilometers (250 mi) away.
Voss water is characterized by its low mineral content, often measured as Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Its still variety typically has a TDS of approximately 44 mg/L, which is significantly lower than many other premium mineral waters.
The brand’s identity is defined by its iconic cylindrical bottle, designed by Neil Kraft, former creative director for Calvin Klein. The design was intended to resemble a high-end fragrance or cosmetic product. While the glass bottle remains the brand’s flagship, Voss also produces BPA-free PET plastic bottles and aluminum cans for portability and use in restricted environments like gyms and swimming pools.
