Prior to the 2021 Indian Premier League, Kings XI Punjab was renamed as Punjab Kings on February 17, 2021. Ness Wadia clarified that the team decided to “relook at things” and rebrand following 13 IPL seasons as the reason for the name change.
He said he was disappointed in the team for “not being able to win a title” and that he thought they should “start afresh” now that the name has changed. He clarified that COVID-19 had just postponed the announcement of the name change, which had been scheduled two years prior.
