With 16 refineries and a refining capacity of more than 3 million barrels per calendar day, Marathon Petroleum became the largest petroleum refinery operator in the United States on October 1, 2018, following its acquisition of Andeavor.
In terms of overall revenue, Marathon Petroleum came in at number 41 on the 2018 Fortune 500 ranking of the biggest American firms. Marathon Petroleum was listed as the 197th-largest publicly traded corporation worldwide in the 2020 Forbes Global 2000.
