Aerolíneas Argentinas, formally Aerolíneas Argentinas S.A., is Argentina’s largest airline and the country’s flag carrier. The airline was created in 1949, from the merger of four companies and started operations in December 1950. The company has been run by the Argentine government since late 2008. It has its headquarters in Buenos Aires.
It was considered one of the safest airlines in the world and chosen by Travelers’ Choice Awards as the best airline in America in terms of on-board service and punctuality of 90% in 2018.
It flies to more than sixty-six national and international destinations in South America , the Caribbean , North America and Europe . Previously, Aerolíneas Argentinas operated flights to Oceania , on a transpolar flight through Antarctica and Africa , specifically South Africa .

It focuses its commercial operations on the Buenos Aires City Airport, Aeroparque Jorge Newbery , and the Ministro Pistarini International Airport , located in the Province of Buenos Aires . The company also manages Aerolíneas Cargo and Jet Paq , the ramp services company Aerohandling , and the tourism services company Optar.
Aerolíneas Argentinas was privatized in 1990 and returned to state management in 2008. Since 2009, the fleet has been modernized, flight simulators have been acquired and new international, national and regional flight routes have been created. It has been a member of the SkyTeam alliance since 2012, being the first and only South American partner. Aerolíneas Cargo is a member of SkyTeam Cargo .
