Valero was created on January 1, 1980, as a spin-off of Coastal States Gas Corporation. Valero took over the natural gas operations of the defunct subsidiary of Coastal States Gas, LoVaca Gathering Company. The name Valero comes from Misión San Antonio de Valero, the original name of the Alamo.
